Marnus Labuschagne Omitted from Australian One-Day International Lineup to Face Team India
Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from Australia's three-match ODI series against India, as high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw earning a shock inclusion.
Performance Issues Result in Omission
The right-hander was left out from the ODI team after scoring just one run in each of his two innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. He has a top score of 47 in his most recent ten ODI innings.
The batsman has played 68 one-day internationals and accumulated 1,871 ODI runs at an batting average of 34.64, but will now work towards a Test team comeback ahead of the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.
Surprise Inclusion and Other Squad Updates
There have been indications of a return to form with a score of 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw scored a hundred for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.
Renshaw could to make his white-ball international debut in the forthcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.
He has played 14 Tests with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also aiming for a return to the Test team as Australia seek a fix to their opening batting issues.

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after having time off since excelling for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.
BBL performer Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after suffering a concussion in the lead up to Australia’s last 50-over series against South Africa.
Skipper Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he works to regain fitness from a spinal issue by the time to lead Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.
Squad Selection Strategy and Schedule
Australia have announced a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will sit out the five-match series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.
Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after hitting a ton in the final game against New Zealand to seal a 2-0 series win last week.
“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as players get ready for the cricket season through Sheffield Shield cricket,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an crucial phase in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”
Australia’s three-match ODI series against India commences on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20 internationals from October 29.
